What You Should Know About the Casper Mattress

Casper is one of the leading online mattress retailers. Some even consider the company largely responsible for the quick rise of the industry.

Online mattress retailers are innately intriguing. They often boast high-quality products at reasonable prices. Plus, the mattress is shipped directly to your door as part of the paradigm, which is certainly convenient.

However, since you won’t find the Casper mattress in many stores, though the company does have a few retail locations, how can you tell if it’s your ideal product? Also, is the Casper mattress company itself reputable?

If you’ve been considering purchasing a Casper mattress, here’s what you need to know.

Meet the Casper Mattresses

When it began selling products in 2014, only one mattress was available through Casper. Now, there are three models.

The Casper mattress offers a four-layer design and hybrid foam construction. It also uses a “zoned support” system to increase comfort by being firmer or softer in specific areas.

Casper’s Essential mattress is a lower cost variant, featuring a three-layer design without the zone support features.

The Wave is the higher end variant of the Casper mattress, with five-layer construction and a more ergonomic design.

Pricing varies between the models, with The Essential retailing at a starting point of $350 and The Wave beginning at $1,000. The Casper mattresses also come with a warranty that is pretty standard when comparing it to the rest of the higher end products available.

Product Quality

The Casper mattress has a lot of positive reviews to back up their claims of being an affordable product with high-end features. However, like every mattress out there, not everyone has a great experience.

Whether you deem a mattress to be comfortable is personal, as people require varying amounts of support and firmness. This means that negative reviews are out there, just like any other large mattress company.

Some reviews did mention off-gassing, where the foam releases a particular scent, as an issue. Usually, off-gassing resolves with time. Others mention a long break-in period, indicating it may take some time for the mattress to soften.

The company does have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, so that’s worth noting.

Data Controversy

Casper was the target of a lawsuit, along with NaviStone, a software company, in late 2017. The company was accused of collecting data on site visitors without their consent by monitoring keystrokes. This means, if you filled out a customer form, the company could discover what you typed, even if you didn’t complete the form or submit your information.

Casper denies the allegations, though it appears that the lawsuit is still in progress.

Is the Casper Mattress Right for You?

Ultimately, comfort is subjective, so there are no guarantees that you will personally like the Casper mattress. However, aside from the data collection controversy, the company itself seems reputable. Additionally, many people are happy with their Casper mattresses, and the prices make them an attractive option worth exploring.
