Weight loss update: I lost 4 pounds

BLOGYes it’s true.  I’m writing today with some very big news…as of last Sunday I’m down four pounds.  Remember that pic of the scale that said I weighed 162 lbs.  Well that number is a thing of the past.  I now weigh 158 pounds and I hope to lose another three pounds by the end of the month.  Happy New Year to me!

PS: Yes that is my real workout gear.

How am I going to do it?  It’s very easy actually; my weight loss plan is the perfect combination of mental and physical commitment – keep reading, don’t worry I’ll share the specifics.

Just start, not tomorrow and not Monday – today

Getting started was the hardest part.  I made a million excuses as to why I didn’t want to join a gym but once I got started it has been pretty easy, no scratch that, it’s freakin addicting.  That’s my first weight loss secret, just get started, keep going and stop making excuses.  I head to the gym three times a week, one day is pure cardio for 45 minutes and the other two days include 30 minutes of cardio and 15 minutes weight training.  In my non-gym days I do yoga once or twice a week.  That’s a total of four to five workouts a week and it’s really kicked my weight loss into high gear.

Don’t stress about being over weight

Getting skinny is just as much about the mental strength as it is the physical.  I never thought I’d be one of those girls who wanted to go to the gym and eat salad for lunch but trust me when you start seeing results you become so wrapped up in the lifestyle.  I used to eat whatever I wanted and then stress about being fat afterwards, I think we can all agree that’s an unhealthy lifestyle – both mentally and physically.

Now I think about everything I eat because I crave looking and feeling better.  I don’t stress about what I’m eating, I just think about the food and make conscious decisions to eat half portions and less sweets.  That’s my second big weight loss secret, eat less food and less sugar.  If you’re wondering if I’m never full the answer is no, but I’m also not sleepy and lethargic after over eating like I used to.

I don’t starve myself and only a piece of cheese when I feel like passing out (that’s a Devil Wears Prada reference in case you missed it).   I eat what I want I just eat it in moderation.  I allow myself to have chocolate if I want to, but truth be told I don’t really want to eat chocolate chip cookies anymore.  However if the craving comes back I’ll eat just one, not the whole box.

You have to want it and want to make changes

I know this is going to sound a little cray-cray but getting healthy is the best decision I’ve ever made.  I know losing four pounds just a #tinywin but this weight loss has been a long time coming for me.  I’m really proud of myself, not just for the numbers on the scale but for the way my life has changed.

I wanted to change.  This is going to sound weird but my body did too.  I felt like something was missing in my life, like my body was craving activity.  Even though it’s cold outside and some nights I’m really tired or have a lot of work to do I always make time to go to the gym.  Everything else can wait.  That’s my third secret to successful weight loss, you have to change your life if you want to see changes in your body.  Make time for the gym, trust me your body will love you afterwards.
