Self Love Help: How to Learn to Love Your Body

We live in a world where we’re surrounded by beautiful, confident people. Whether you turn on the TV or open up Instagram, you’ll be bombarded with gorgeous people living their best lives.

And that can be difficult to face every day, especially if you struggle with self-love. But no matter what you look like or dress like, you can learn to love your body and love yourself.

Keep reading for some important tips that will lead you towards a life full of self-love.

Stop Criticizing Yourself

Do you have an annoying voice in your head that is constantly bringing you down? It’s that voice that tells you that you aren’t worthy, or smart enough, or pretty enough to succeed in life.

This voice might start out as an unnoticeable whisper at first, but over time it becomes louder than everything else. All you hear in your head are criticisms about your appearance and personality.

But this voice is not the voice of truth. This voice is not you. It’s the sound of your fears and insecurities. And when you realize that, you can start to question the voice and shut it off.

Compliment Yourself

How do you shut off the criticisms in your head? Well, by complimenting yourself! Every time you find yourself thinking negatively about your appearance, counter those thoughts with compliments.

Think about it like this. You often compliment other people on what they wear, how they do their hair, or how they do their makeup. But why don’t you compliment yourself like that?

The next time you put effort into an outfit or doing your hair or makeup, take a moment to compliment yourself.

Take time to compliment yourself even when you don’t put any effort in. Once you get to the point where you can find compliments about your all-natural face and body, you’ll have found self-love.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

We live in the age of social media. It’s impossible to avoid, and while it can be beneficial in some ways, it can also be detrimental to our self-esteem.

Instagram, for example, is full of beautiful people dedicating their lives to eventually become a model. There are people who became Instagram famous because of how traditionally attractive they are.

If you follow a lot of these people, it can put you down and make you feel less-than and self-conscious. If you find it hard to stop comparing yourself to the people on your feed, consider unfollowing them.

Instead, follow people who value things other than their appearance, or follow people who aren’t traditionally pretty, so you can see that beauty comes in different shapes and sizes.

Practice Self-Care Every Day

In order to love your body, you need to take actions each day for yourself. Life often gets so busy that you might forget to take care of yourself, which can be detrimental to your ability to love who you are.

Spend time every day practicing self-care so you can nourish your soul. Even five minutes of self-care can do the trick.

Some ideas for self-care include:

  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Exercise
  • Cook your favorite meal
  • Read a book
  • Take a long bath
  • Do a face mask
  • Get a massage
  • Sing
  • Eat at your favorite restaurant
  • Burn a candle or some essential oils

The list can go on and one. The bottom line is, take time each day and do something for you and only you.

Focus on Overall Health

Oftentimes, what we feel on the inside is reflected on the outside and in your mind.

For example, if you’ve been eating a ton of unhealthy foods and neglecting exercise, you might feel terrible on the inside. And while you may still look healthy on the outside, you’ll see yourself differently because your brain is telling you how unhealthy you are.

By focusing on your overall health, your brain will see your physical body as being healthier, even if you look the same.

So start cooking healthier meals, get back into working out a few times a week, and make sure you take care of your mental health, too. By focusing on your overall health, not only will you feel healthier, but you will start looking healthier too. This is the perfect recipe for a boost in confidence and self-love.

Use Self-Affirmations

Sometimes, we need to convince ourselves that we are beautiful.

If you often wake up in the morning feeling terrible about yourself, then using self-affirmations may be helpful in reversing that image.

It’s easy to do—just put some sticky notes around your mirror with positive things you can say to yourself. Then, every morning when you go into the bathroom, you’ll say these things about yourself and start to change your perception.

It can also be helpful to write down these affirmations in a journal. At the end of the day, open a journal and write a few things that made you feel good about yourself that day.

They don’t need to be physical things, either. By saying and writing positive affirmations about who you are, you’ll develop a deeper self-love, which translates into loving your body.

Love Yourself to Love Your Body

When someone feels negatively towards their appearance, it means there are deeper underlying issues at play. No matter what you look like, you can love your body if you love yourself first.
