While Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson spends a lot of time in the spotlight, he is currently making headlines for his role in Ramage. But that isn’t his only recent film. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hit theaters in December 2017, raking in over $403 million at the box office. While Dwayne Johnson doesn’t take all of that money home, it does boost the net worth of The Rock.
Dwayne Johnson’s net worth is estimated at $220 million. A substantial portion of that comes from his movie career, but that isn’t the only source of his wealth.
The Role that Created The Rock
Originally, The Rock hoped to become a pro football player, though that didn’t pan out. At one point, when he was in his early 20s, he only had $7 to his name. He even had to move back in with his parents.
He decided to follow in his father’s (and grandfather’s) footsteps, pursuing a career as a pro wrestler.
Dwayne Johnson earned the moniker “The Rock” during his time as a pro wrestler. Initially, he was known as Rocky Maivia in the then-WWF (now WWE) but adopted the new name when his character became a villain in 1997.
Ultimately, The Rock made a substantial sum as a pro wrestler. And, even though he doesn’t wrestle anymore, he’s still a WWE employee. He earned $3.5 million from the WWE in 2016 alone.
The Rock’s Transition to Films
The net worth of The Rock was already in the millions before he began acting. His first starring role, Mathayus in The Scorpion King, came with a $5 million paycheck, a new record for an actor’s feature film starring debut.
As he continued his acting career, he was able to command more money for his work in films. By the time he starred in Fast Five (box office: $209.8 million), he was able to secure a $32.6 million salary.
He has since gone on to star in numerous blockbusters. Furious 7 earned an astounding $353 million at the box office, and San Andreas, a disaster film, came in at $155 million.
Moana, the Disney animated film where Dwayne Johnson provided the voice of Maui, brought in box office earnings above $248.7 million.
The Net Worth of The Rock
While The Rock’s net worth is estimated at $220 million today, that number will likely change in the future. Aside from his continuing income from the WWE, and the recently opened Rampage film, he has a few more movies that are releasing in the near future.
Skyscraper is currently scheduled to hit theaters in July 2018, while Fighting with My Family should open in September 2018.
In July 2019, Hobbs and Shaw should begin showing on the big screen, followed by Jumanji 3, with a potential release date in December 2019, and several other films that don’t have even tentative release dates at this time.
Ultimately, the net worth of The Rock will likely keep growing as long as he continues making blockbuster level films for his adoring fans.
