If you are an avid reader, you may have a Barnes and Noble membership. But with the bounty of ways to obtain books nowadays, you may find you aren’t using your membership as much as you’d like. Here is how to cancel a Barnes and Noble membership the easy way.
What is the Barnes and Noble Membership?
Barnes and Noble memberships currently cost $25 annually. With a membership, you receive extra perks, such as free shipping, 40% off bestseller hardcovers in-store, 10% off in-store, and early access to sales and events, plus additional perks. If you are an avid reader and like having physical copies of books, this membership could easily pay for itself. However, if you aren’t using it as often as you’d like, the extra cost may not be worth it. Read on to learn how to cancel your Barnes and Noble membership.
Find Out How You First Paid
When you first signed up for your Barnes and Noble membership, did you pay for it with a credit card? Or cash? In order to cancel your membership, you will need to recall this critical piece of information.
Why is this important? Well, a month prior to your membership expiration date, your membership will automatically renew if you paid with a credit card. The card on file will be charged, so you will need that in order to cancel your membership.
If you paid cash in stores, you’re in luck – your membership will not automatically renew. If you no longer want your Barnes and Noble membership, you can cancel it by simply not paying again.
Cancel Online
If you paid by credit card, figure out which card you paid with. Once you are sure, you can cancel your Barnes and Noble membership online. Remember, you will need to cancel at least 30 days prior to your renewal date, or you will be charged for the next year’s annual fee.
To cancel your membership online, login to your membership account. If you don’t already have an account, you can create one. Once you login, you should be able to manage your membership, and cancel it under the settings.
Cancel by Phone
If you do not want to bother with setting up an online account, you can also cancel your membership by phone. To do so, contact member services at 1-866-238-READ (if you are based in the United States). Members outside the United States should call 201-559-3886.
Cancel in Person
Lastly, you can cancel your membership in person. To do so, simply walk into your local Barnes and Noble store and talk with a customer service agent there. They should be able to guide you through the process of canceling your account with Barnes and Noble.
