Busy…In A Good Way

a life in balance

Since I’ve returned from our honeymoon, I’ve been picking up a couple side projects.  I knew these projects were coming months before the wedding, so I’ve been prepared.

Many of these projects are social media-related which makes me SO happy.  Because, guess what?  When I’m working on blogging, social media, and the like, it usually doesn’t feel like work.  I love it!  It is super exciting and I can’t wait to find out where this new direction in my life takes me.

Here’s what I’ve been working on:

  • Blonde & Balanced.  This is kinda obvious, but I’ve been striving to put more effort into Blonde & Balanced.  B&B is my baby and it usually always comes first (unless I have a deadline looming).  I’ve been thinking about B&B a lot and I hope you are enjoying the direction it is taking!
  • Social Media Side Project.  I’ll never be able to divulge much about this, but I am the social media coordinator for a local group effort.  It is super exciting and takes up a lot of time, but it’s so fun to be the lead on something like this.  I’m learning a lot.
  • Freelancing.  I’ve been rekindling my freelancing habits.  You’ll start to see me pop up on the blogs I used to write for regularly.
  • B&B Social Media:  When I have time, I’ve been attempting to amp up the social media for B&B – specifically Facebook.  If you haven’t already, Like Blonde & Balanced on Facebook here!
  • Personal Blog.  I’ve been posting more on my personal blog, too.  Still not as much as on B&B, but it’s a work in progress.  I’m finding my flow there.
  • Operation Buy Our First House:  Of course, there is that whole thing where we’re buying our first house.  No big deal.
  • Normal Life.  Oh yeah, and then there’s work, workin’ on my fitness, friends, family, church, and all the things that make up a good life.
  • Marriage.  Oh, and I’m also a newlywed!

Seems like a lot of stuff, but the crazy thing is that I’m happier than I think I ever have been since I returned from my honeymoon.  I am thriving on all these projects, my new marriage, and life in general.  My side projects make me so happy!

Now, if only I could figure out a way for my side projects to make me enough money to live on?  Hmmmm … that sounds like my next project. :)

One Balanced Blog Roundup: Back to Normal Edition

At this exact moment, I’m letting out a HUGE sigh of relief.  I have gotten SO much done today and basically gotten my life back to normal after a couple out of control busy weeks.  Today I managed to

  • write a freelance article
  • get to church
  • do 3 weeks worth of laundry
  • clean/change the sheets on my bed
  • clean out my entire closet (EVERYTHING!  Pulled out clothes to donate, threw out old bags/shoe boxes, organized, trashed, etc. etc.  I’m a minimalist wannabe today.)
  • organize my files
  • shed tons and tons of piled up paperwork
  • vacuum the entire apartment (including the couch, which was long overdue)
  • wash out my makeup brushes (sounds weird, but it’s a total must)
  • install anti-virus software on my laptop and my netbook
  • organize the recycling (which resulted from cleaning out my closet)
  • I’m now in the process of making chili!  Yum…first cold-weather food I’ve made this season.

Sadly, exercise or grocery shopping is not included in the above list.  I’m hoping to convince myself to go out for a run after I post this round up, but I’m not too confident that’s going to happen.  Still, I feel MUCH more organized which translates to a much happier and content me!  Yay!

On to the round up!

Finding Balance: When You Have A Loaded Calendar

hills_google_calendar

My apartment is a wreck.  I’ve been eating out way too much.  Until tonight, I hadn’t been to the gym in 4 days.

My calendar has been too busy this week.  I’m not busy in the way I was when I was studying for the CPA, but I’ve had way , too many social engagements this week (which is why the image associated with this post is a phony google calendar intended for Lauren Conrad from The Hills.  Ha!).  On top of that, I started to feel sick on Sunday night.  So every moment I’ve been at home (which, this week, has literally been at night to go to bed) I’ve been resting and trying to ward off this annoying virus (I was victorious – thanks to my trusty sidekick, Zicam.  Yes, I’m obsessed with that stuff.).

When I get busy like this and I’m barely at my apartment, my life spirals out of control.  I can’t remember the last time I went grocery shopping – thank God I have a year’s worth of frozen chicken in my freezer.

The only way to avoid this mess is to maintain balance on a regular basis.  Once you give balance an inch, it takes a mile – you know what I mean?

How do you find balance when your calendar is overbooked?
