Check out my original post on my 2011 goals HERE. Below is an update on my 2011 goals!
Goal #1 – Write, Write, Write.
I’ve made progress on this goal. I’ve been blogging more often. In a perfect world, though, I’d dedicate an hour or more each day to writing.
But there is something that no one tells you about writing. It’s flippin’ hard. For real. Not so much the act of writing, but coming up with ideas and topics to dissect on paper is about the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do.
Bloggers and writers – where do you find your inspiration?
Goal #2 – Find Balance.
I’m still struggling with this goal. Finding balance is hard. To me, finding balance means finding time to enjoy all the things you want to do with your life, while also leading a healthy lifestyle – if that makes sense.
I hardly ever go to bed at night feeling like I did everything I wanted to that day (things like write, pray, and sweat seem to top my list for things I wish I had more time for … hmmm).
Definitely a work in progress.
Goal #3 – Find a Routine.
Nope. Hasn’t happened yet. I blame the wedding. Heh. Poor wedding, always taking the blame.
The main thing that jacks up my routine is my sleep patterns. I’ll do anything to get sleep up until the wedding and if that means screwing up my routine, so be it.
However, if you look at 2011 overall, my workout routine has been killer. I have really been killing it at the gym (in comparison to last year, especially) this year even if I have had my ups and downs.
This could be the goal that I MOST want to accomplish, too. I thrive on a routine and so does G. Hopefully we can really set the tone for this after the wedding.
Goals #4 – Love, Love, Love.
I do feel that I’ve made some progress on this. When my family member was sick earlier this year, I showed them more love. One of my siblings had a little dilemma at college earlier this year and I helped them through it quite a bit … and every time I think of that, it seriously makes me smile. Cool, huh?
After my bridal shower, I felt a lot of love. And, of course, as the days tick by towards our wedding day, I feel more in love with G than ever. Very exciting stuff. (Get ready for some seriously gag-worthy, lovey-dovey posts in late-May, early-June!)
Goal #5 – Get Married!
Almost there … okay, not really. It’s still 2 months away. Hurry up, wedding day!
Goal #6 – Lose 10 Pounds.
I have made the most progress on this goal. I have lost between 5-6 pounds. I’m not sure if I’ll make it to the 10 pound mark before the wedding or not. Either way, I’m very happy with the progress I’ve made. Clean eats plus lots of gym time really do the trick!
Goal #7 – Financial Goals.
- Wedding budget – We’re on track. Things are looking good.
- Combine finances – We’re in the process of doing this even though we’re not married quite yet.
- Start house-hunting – Slated for December 2011.
- Make more side-income – I’ve been working on it.
- Start a dog-fund – After the wedding.
How are your 2011 goals coming along? Any questions about mine?

My annual goals are a mixed bag so far. My savings goals are going pretty much according to plan, and one of my big goals was to continue meal planning and eating healthfully, which I’ve definitely done. But other goals have fallen victim to procrastination. For example, I’d like to learn how to use my sewing machine and also learn how to refinish and reupholster furniture this year. But so far, I’ve done almost nothing in the way of making either of these things happen. I think I’m not feeling terribly motivated because they’re goals I have for this year as a whole, which means I’ve still got 9 months to make them happen. Time is making me lazy.
I have trouble with writing too. I read a quote once that said a real writer is someone for whom writing is hard. Anyone can put words down on paper, but when you really care about it and expect the best from yourself, it can be flippin’ difficult. I love writing more than anything else in the world, but I still have to drag myself to sit down and do it most days. I don’t know many passions/hobbies that are like that.
Whenever I *am* in the writing groove, I try to churn out as much as I can. Especially with blog posts. I’d love to have a handful of posts ready to go for those times when I just am not able to get anything out, but so far it’s a constant game of catch-up. And I don’t even have a wedding to prep for or a workout schedule to stick to (although I could probably use the latter.)
I feel like that about most of my hobbies – photography, guitar, baking. And my freelance writing work – although that’s work, so no surprise there. Sometimes it’s just that initial “doing”.
Blogging, though? Always a delight.
I couldn’t agree more. Writing is flipping hard. I always start the month off well… but it tapers off. I need to add to my list of goals to dedicate an hour to writing a day. I find myself procrastinating by going through my RSS reader. I’m also challenged with finding a routine for working out. i used to be an am gym person, now I’ve switched to evenings. Just trying to get it in.
Oh I hear you on the writing. It is really hard and time consuming. I I bought a keyboard for my iPad thinking I’d write more while in transit…..or when I’m on vacation like right now ( the thought of bringing my laptop makes it * not* like a vacation.)
How much writing have I gotten done as a result? NONE!!
Oye vey…..
I listen to psychology in every day podcast, one in particular talks about performance anxiety. We are so judgmental of ourselves that we paralyze ourselves sometimes. Anyway….I try to remove judgement when I sit down to write….then I write truly how I feel, and that always sounds better. Or I go out for drinks with friends and come home and write a little…..thats a useful strategy too
Wow, you are so organized. I wish I could be that organized. I haven’t looked around your blog, this is the first page I landed on but it looks fun already. I think the only thing I can probably give advice on is writing. Inspiration is one of those things that in order to find it, you have to pay attention to details. Don’t try to look for inspiration, it is always there, just look at the tiniest details in life. You seem like a busy girl, so if you find balance like one of your goals, you will open a little more space for inspiration.
